Heeey FriYAY! Sharing with you today a little behind the scenes at Team Heather Sager because if you’re anything like me, you love knowing what’s happening backstage in someone’s business. My husband, James and I have both been working from home since we moved to Bend (he’s a financial advisor and his firm is based in Portland so he's been traveling back there 1-2x month for the last 2 years with all else via zoom). We’ve been tag teaming child care for our 3rd kiddo while our older boys are at school, he covers me while I’m on calls and vice versa. It honestly worked fine. I definitely have worked way less these years (like 10-12 hours a week on average), but I still maintain my six figure coaching business... which to me is impressive AF!) But 2026 Plot Twist! James got a promotion in January and his company acquired a practice here in Bend (which was our goal moving here so YAY!) but starting in January, he works in a physical office 3 days a week. Which is awesome for my “I need space and alone time, get the heck out of the house please” personality, but that changes the whole child care operation. We made a plan. I found a local mom who homeschooled her littles and was offering in-home day care. She seemed like a great fit so we scheduled a day to visit and scope it out… then it got rescheduled 3 times. So I started asking myself some questions: What would it look like if we didn’t get child care? What would it look like if I created a schedule to run my business AND lean into mom life? What if this wasn’t about just saying “I’m cutting back”, but rather, becoming efficient AF and running the SAME business, or better, in just…. 10 hours a week? So here’s what I came up with: Mondays and Fridays I go to my 6am HIIT class and bring my laptop with me and work from the coffee shop next door from 7-10am (that’s 6 hours total in these 2 focused sessions) Then I come home and chill with little B for a few hours and when he goes down for a nap, I log on for my call blocks from about 1-3 depending on the week. Monday’s have been my group program office hours and Friday afternoons are my private client calls. Totaling about 4 hours a week. Wednesdays I realized quickly that I could not only get MORE done on these hours than I was doing on the previous sporadic hours, BUT... it didn’t leave me any extra time for my peer mastermind, sales calls or booking Spotlight Sessions (which have popped off lately, peep that if want to grab one for April) So the solution we came up with is for James to go into the office a little later every other Wednesday so I can do a morning call block after the older boys get on the bus (which gives me another 2 hours as I need). Tuesdays and Thursdays These days are FULLY off. I made this a non-negotiable that I do not take calls on these days (even over nap time), and my team does not give me deadlines or expect me to create, deliver or review anything on these days. So how is this all going? It’s taken a beat to find my groove, but what’s amazing is that I’m MORE productive and more engaged in my work. My total hours each week are about what I’ve been doing the last 2 years but the energy is so much different. I no longer feel like I’m constantly behind, or trying to juggle deadlines, but instead I know when I work, and when I don’t. This might seem stupid or silly, but when I don't have clear boundaries for work, I become delusional with time estimation and over commit 🫣. But the last 2 months, I’ve gotten suuuper clear on exactly what I’m working on and when. I’m still refining, especially with months like this one where my schedule will need to adapt for spring break and my High Performance Coaching Certification later this month which is 4 straight days. I share all this with you because I hope to encourage you to design your business in a way that works FOR you, WITH you and your life because I think the biggest shift for me was this: I stopped trying to BALANCE my work + life… and started BLENDING it. That totally sounded like a chatgpt line didn’t it? 😅 So let's move on.... COACHING HIGHLIGHT Something that’s been coming up a lot on coaching calls over the last month is the desire to say things the “right way”. The right format, the right story, the right buzzwords or language from their ICA survey.
But it's less about getting the words right and more about the energy and intention behind them. Think about it, human to human, we don't want someone to talk to us "right", we want someone to CARE.
So when we communicate with others, whether it's on a stage or in a conversation, while you absolutely *should* think about the words you use,
I'm less worried about you getting it right and far more interested in whether you not you RESONATE with the person you hope to connect with.
Ok, that's all I got for today! Hope this message found you exactly when you needed it. I’ll be back in your inbox on Tuesday with something more marketing focused that will help you if you’re launching your offer this year.
